1906 >       1st Coorg Golf Championship 

•  Value of Coorg Golf Championship Challenge Cup  Rs.253/-

•  Conditions of play – Matchplay, Preliminary rounds at Mercara, Belur and  Hallery courses, finals held at Belur course on 1st March 1906.

•  Entries open – 9 Golfers, Entry fee Rs.5/-.

•  Handicap – 16 Golfers, entry Fee Rs.2/-.

•  Open Winner – Mr. E. P. Playford, Handicap – Mr. G.F. Magniac.

•  Open Championship Bowl to be won 3 years in succession before it becomes the property of the winner.

 

1907 >     Championship opened to residents in Coorg and members of  Shanivarsanthe H. C. B Club.           

• Conditions of Competitions – Matchplay Open Championship 36 Holes, Handicap 18 holes.

• Semi-finals and finals to be played at Belur Club only.

• As per the minutes of the meeting held at Belur Club on 24th June, 1907 competitors may play their matches at any recognized 9 hole course in Coorg, and any dispute as to locality or otherwise will be decided by the Committee. Passed.

• As per the minutes of the meeting held at Belur Club on 24th June 1907 “ proposed by Mr. Green Price that the future management of the Coorg Championship and Handicap Competition be vested with Belur Club, Passed”

 

1908 >     As per the minutes of the Annual General Meeting at Belur Club, 15th June 1908 “proposed by

Mr. Playford, seconded by Mr. Newcome, that in the opinion of the meeting, the championship was never meant to be won outright, and until evidence is forthcoming to the contrary, such shall be the conditions of the competitions”.

 

1910 >    ‘B’ Class Handicap Tournament Winner, Mr. P.M. Wilkins

 

1912 >     Handicap Strokeplay Trophy – Winner Mr. Reid

 

1915 >     Paid to the Commissioner of Coorg for War fund Rs.44/-

1922 >     As per the minutes of the Committee meeting held at Belur Club on June 5th  

• 1922 “ Resolved that the Hon. Secretary writes to Mr. Laker to see whether a return match Vs Mysore can be arranged after the monsoon”.

• This match played at Wartyhally links resulted in a win for Coorg by two matches to one!

• List of Handicaps include Mr. Cariappa – 12, however, he did not play the tournament.

1923 >     As per the minutes of the General meeting at Belur Club on Monday, June 18th, 1923 “ proposed by

Mr. Magniac, seconded by Mr. Wood, that ladies be eligible for the Handicap Competitions, passed.

1924 >    As per the minutes of the General Meeting held at North Coorg Club on Saturday 20th April 1924

“proposed by Mr. Newcomb, seconded by Mr.  Raymond that Sakleshpur golf members be invited to join on Coorg Competition.

          Excluding the Coorg championship. In the event of their joining, that preliminary rounds be played off in Mercara, Belur, and Sakleshpur up to the semifinals in each district, and that when the results of each district are in, Tee will be freshly drawn for the finals of the competition in Belur. This resolution was passed.

1926 >     Notes on the season – The links were in excellent condition, thanks to the energies of the

Hon. Secretary of the Belur Club. This year the greens were done away with and the browns were made in their place which was a great improvement and was greatly appreciated by all, especially those who always put down the loss of a match to the impossibility of putting on the greens.

 

1947 >      Coorg Golf Handicap Tournament commenced

 

1954 >      Belur Club vs Bangalore Golf Club

 

1957 >      Mr. D. Siddanna elected President of Belur Club

 

1959 >      Narayana Shetty Memorial Cup (Tennis) Belur Club Vs Bamboo Club instituted

• Belur Club Fleece Tournament Trophy presented by Mr. & Mrs. A. J. White.

 

1961>      Golf Championship converted to Strokeplay format played over 36 Holes (Open) over 1 day and 18

Holes (Handicap) over 1 day.

 

1972 >     D. H. Dasappa Memorial Cup Stableford Competition. Presented by Mr. D. Mohan Dasappa and

Mr. D. Suresh Dasappa

 

1977 >    Sakamma Memorial Challenge Trophy Inter-Club Golf _ Belur Club vs Bamboo.

1979 >    Inauguration of a new  clubhouse on 5th May 1979

 

1983 >    Open Stableford Championship cup presented by Mr. D. Kumar Siddanna

 

1992 >    Coorg Open gets sponsored for the first time by Amrut Distilleries

 

1996 >    Seniors Golf Tournament Rolling Trophy presented by Mr. D. Kumar Siddanna

 

2004 >   Belur Club Centenary celebrations held on 30th & 31st October 2004.

2006 >   Centenary year of Coorg Golf Championship. Tournament held on 28th and 29th October 2006.
